"Can't Stop" listening!

I have recently revisited a song by the Red Hot Chili Peppers titled "Can't Stop" and enjoyed it once again. Can't Stop is an alternative rock song released on January the 24th, 2003 with many changes in melody and beat, and a relatively implicit message behind it. I've heard this song multiple times before and each time I'll end up focusing on something different. My first couple listens pretty much had me confused as I could not understand why the song would change and flux constantly throughout the 4 minutes and 37 seconds. The song would include It's iconic opening catchy beat, an upbeat pop part, an angelic background section, a more grim, slow and reflective portion, and of course a classic guitar solo. Took me a while to grow into it as it was a very different style from other songs I was accustomed to at the time, but it is worth pointing out the smoothness in the transitions of styles within the same song. The band managed to sway and change it's rhythms almost seamlessly as one would normally notice the change only seconds after it actually occurred. This does tend to be a defining trend for this band and many other alternative rock groups. These types of bands and artists are not afraid to change up their melody, rhythm, and speed over the course of a song, they view it as an opportunity to help convey different emotions and feelings that can accompany a message-heavy song. This song is no exception, as the meaning behind the strange and implicit lyrics gets boosted by the difference in melodies. It took me a while to make up my own interpretation of the lyrics themselves, but the song's beats help me get to a comfortable position as I was well aware of when the lyrics try to convey a more grim time or a happier atmosphere. I honestly believe this is not a song for everybody, as some will feel the same weirdness that I felt my first couple plays. This tends to be off-putting for those not accustomed to an alternative rock group like the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and those who don't look deeper into the song and listen here and there might not be giving it the time that a song like this needs to grow on them. But this is more of a genre issue. Regardless, Can't Stop is a great representation of the genre itself, and it's initial catchy tune tends to be enough to keep listeners hooked until their celebrated iconic guitar solo, a common aspect that is often sought after as new Red Hot Chili Pepper songs come to market.
