Draft 1 Physics: Future Application of Magnetic Fields and Travel

The following is a draft for an English paper on the applications of magnetic fields and levitation in transportation: Reynaldo Falcón Professor Hugo Ríos-Cordero INGL 3103 June 22th, 2021 Draft 1 Physics: Future Application of Magnetic Fields and Travel Transportation has seen exponential increases in development as time flies. Human’s have managed to build bullet trains, electric cars, and even spaceships. It all comes down to the importance of transportation and the need to improve on its efficiency. As of late, many new and clever ways to improve travel times have begun to spring up with concepts of hyperloops and electricity-dependent modes of transport. But one of the most effective but costly ideas to date is the use of magnetic fields and magnetic levitation. In general, there are two big issues that hinder the speed and efficiency of any mode of transportation, friction and drag. Friction refers to the force that acts upon a car or train in the opposite direction of its moveme...

A Little Test in Mask Mandate Perspectives

As a small test, I took a look at two similar articles by two drastically different news outlets. CNN and FOX News tend to be very popular news sources that have a reputation of biasness due to their politicization and contrasting two-party system present in the United States. The CNN post titled "'Asserting power when they don't have any': GOP governors move to ban mask mandates in schools" goes through a couple of states to detail their mask rules/mandates and discuss a bit about what that would entail as of the post date June 13 2021. The title alone shows some resentment towards governors, as the writer believes that the governors are attempting to take away mask mandates from their schools even if they supposedly don't have the power to do so. The perspective of the writer of this article, Tara Subramaniam, puts a bit of pressure on those political figures throughout but I can't deny the details of these mask mandates and the relatively clear rep...

"Can't Stop" listening!

I have recently revisited a song by the Red Hot Chili Peppers titled "Can't Stop" and enjoyed it once again. Can't Stop is an alternative rock song released on January the 24th, 2003 with many changes in melody and beat, and a relatively implicit message behind it. I've heard this song multiple times before and each time I'll end up focusing on something different. My first couple listens pretty much had me confused as I could not understand why the song would change and flux constantly throughout the 4 minutes and 37 seconds. The song would include It's iconic opening catchy beat, an upbeat pop part, an angelic background section, a more grim, slow and reflective portion, and of course a classic guitar solo. Took me a while to grow into it as it was a very different style from other songs I was accustomed to at the time, but it is worth pointing out the smoothness in the transitions of styles within the same song. The band managed to sway and change it...

Why in the world would I ever pick a degree in Theoretical Physics?

It might sound confusing for some or daunting for others, but there are quite a lot of people who genuinely enjoy taking a physics class. I have always had that curiosity for learning about science and this subject was never an exception. I took a different course of physics from 9th grade all the way up to my senior year of high school and found them all fun. I can't deny that certain chapters were way harder than others, but for the most part it went relatively smooth with a few bumps along the way. (I still have a deep and personal vendetta against cylindrical conductors...) Now, I have to credit the growth of my interest and dedication to this field to my high school physics teacher prof. Marquez, if it wasn't for him I'd probably be crawled up in a corner crying with no clue about how to solve a problem that involved something like a gaussian surface. And I don't want to make it sound like very few people can learn about all this stuff, I'm just trying to empha...
